Internships at OVW

The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is seeking full- or part-time interns for the summer of 2008 (May-August). Interns at OVW will be closely monitored in their work and progress and assigned substantive tasks, which could include, but would not be limited to, cataloguing an OVW resource library, working on the grants closeout process, assisting with the formation of a stakeholder database, tracking events in the field relevant to OVW, assisting with media outreach. Interns will also be expected to assist with a moderate level of administrative tasks, as all members of OVW staff are.

Strong candidates for the intern position would include those entering their Junior or Senior year in college and/or those in graduate school. Those in law school would not be considered for this internship position, as there is a special attorney internship program within the Department of Justice through which all legal/policy interns must be obtained. Candidates must provide their own housing (Duty Station: Washington, DC) and have a clear understanding that this internship is on a volunteer basis. Interns may seek credits from their learning institution as remuneration for their efforts with OVW. Interns are not required to work any particular number of hours, but must keep a consistent schedule.

Once selected, interns will be required to gain security clearance pursuant to Department policy. Interns will be closely supervised by the Outreach Unit or those assigning any particular project.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. For consideration please submit a resume and cover letter to ovwintern@usdoj.gov. Questions on the internship program may also be submitted to this address.
