2009 OVW Tribal Consultation

The 2009 Tribal Consultation will be convened by the Office on Violence Against Women on October 30, 2009 in Minneapolis, MN. The purpose of the OVW Tribal Consultations is to engage in a government-to-government dialogue between the United States Government and the leaders from Indian tribal governments on how to best enhance the safety of Alaska Native and American Indian women from domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. The consultation is will solicit recommendations from tribal government leaders on the following three topics.
- Administering grant funds appropriated for tribal governments and programs created to benefit tribal governments by the original Violence Against Women Act and subsequent legislation.
- Enhancing the safety of Indian women from domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
- Strengthening the Federal response to crimes of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
